Both First Grade classes presented a play based on a popular children’s book. Mr. LaFera’s class performed Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. Mrs. White’s class performed The Signmaker’s Assistant by Tedd Arnold.

The students in both classes took complete ownership of their respective plays. Ideas for costumes, props, backdrops, and movements were created organically. As the students thought of new and exciting ways to enhance their play, their ideas were listened to and incorporated into the performance. On May 15th the students in Ingrid White's and Jane Wolfrom's classes released the trout they raised from eggs into the Stony Clove Creek.  We were able to take a field trip in the fall to the New York State Hatchery in Livingston Manor and pick up 200 eyed brown trout eggs for each class.  Over the course of the year students were responsible for caring for them, checking water temperature, and learning about the creatures they eventually released into the wild. Phoenicia Elementary artists have been working diligently for many months to complete two school-wide art projects that connect to classroom curriculum.  Inspired by the local Leaping Trout Art Project and other community based art “themes” around the country, we dove into making trout themed art.  First and second grade students raised trout in the classroom from eggs to small fingerlings.  These were released into local waters on May 15th

Team Onteora joined 9,000 other walker on October 21st at the Woodbury Commons. District-wide, T-shirt sales raised more than $600, with additional donations totaling $300. As always, thanks for all of the support!

The second graders in Mrs. Wolfrom's class send out a heart felt thank you to the OTA for giving us the money to purchase a new filter for our trout tank.  Ours broke unexpectedly and we were afraid our trout would die without a new one.
