Mr. Prutzman’s law enforcement classes recently attended the New York State Trooper K9 training academy in Cooperstown, NY.  Fifty students were treated to take down by K9 officers, tracking and retrieval as well as drug searches performed by the new “four-legged” recruits.

On Monday, 11/7, the law enforcement classes toured the former UlsterCounty jail and the new jail.  A lecture on the linear vs pod style was quite informative. A special thank you to the Ulster County Corrections Dept. for the opportunity to view law enforcement in action.

Onteora Alumni gives back to the mentor program, DECA and our community.  Former Onteora graduate, Bryan Graham, held a grand opening for a new wholesale artisan chocolate company on November 19 in Shokan.  Bryan, a former participant in the mentorship program at Onteora, wanted to share this opportunity with students in the high school.  DECA  co-president, Tyler Barringer and Danielle Barringer are both involved in analyzing Fruition Chocolate and then preparing a business plan to take this business international for the Advanced Marketing Class.    Tyler spent grand opening day, Nov. 19, at Fruition to learn about the hand-crafted chocolate business.   Danielle will be involved in the mentoring program at Onteora under supervision of Mrs. C. Thompson.    Fruition Chocolate is mainly a wholesale business but will be open during the holidays on weekends for retail sales.  This is a unique opportunity for both students to be involved in a business that is quite rare. . . only a handful of chocolatiers exist in this country.

Members of Onteora DECA will be holding a live telethon on OCSTV at 7 pm on Friday, Dec. 2 to benefit Holiday Helping Hands Campaign 2011.  All funds are used to benefit the less fortunate families/children/households in our school community.  Zac K., Caleb R., and Elmo T., will be the MC’s for the evening.  The TV production class will be responsible for the broadcasting.  DECA students recruit, promote, organize and implement the event.
