News from Onteora DECA

Jacob Combe and Tyler Barringer are competing in the DECA Stock Market Game to win a spot to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City in April.

Marketing classes at the high school are also competing in the DECA SMG.  Tyler Barringer and Brandon Harkin are ranked in the top 20 in the northeast as of Nov. 7, 2011.

Onteora DECA recently hosted their fall blood drive on November 4, 2011, at the high school.  The blood drive went over their goal of 50 by one pint.  Sixty-five donors showed up but some were deferred for colds, travel and etc.  Great job to Danielle B., Taylor A., Nick S., Evan W. and all the donors.

Onteora DECA was recently honored at the Annual Fall Chairpersons Recognition Luncheon held at the Tappan Hill Inn in Tarrytown, NY.  Onteora DECA received the Silver Level Award.

Onteora DECA Coats for Kids program chairperson, Nick S. assisted in collecting many coats.  The club then washed, sorted and assigned coats to over 40 members of our school community.

Mr. Prutzman’s law enforcement classes recently attended the New York State Trooper K9 training academy in Cooperstown, NY.  Fifty students were treated to take down by K9 officers, tracking and retrieval as well as drug searches performed by the new “four-legged” recruits.

On Monday, 11/7, the law enforcement classes toured the former Ulster County jail and the new jail.  A lecture on the linear vs pod style was quite informative. A special thank you to the Ulster County Corrections Dept. for the opportunity to view law enforcement in action.
