DECA Students Serve Up Dinner For Senior Citizens

On April 27, eleven DECA members cooked, cleaned, served and greeted more than 50 senior citizens from the OnteoraSchool District at Al’s Seafood Restaurant. DECA is a high school business and marketing club that stresses community service, business competitions and professionalism.

The senior citizen’s each received dinner prepared by Al’s Seafood Restaurant in Phoenicia.  A gift bag was provided by Shandaken Rotary, which hosted the event.

Onteora DECA students assisted Chef Mark in the kitchen, served coffee and dessert, prepared salads, and did cleanup afterwards. Onteora’s new superintendent, Dr. Phyllis McGill was introduced to the senior citizens and helped serve coffee.

We’d like to send out a great big “thank you” to the OTA for donating funds to help offset expenses for this event.  Onteora DECA advisor, Mrs. J. Douglas and Ms. R. Michalicka were thrilled with the participation.  A good time was had by all and the meal was fantastic!

Great job to our students, Al’s Seafood Restaurant, Shandaken Rotary members, our OnteoraHigh School volunteers and the Phoenicia business community.
